Accounts Receivable - Business Associate


Embarcadero Media, the local news company of Silicon Valley, has an opening in our business department for a numbers-oriented, details-minded person who wants to better understand how the financial and operational processes of a company work. The Business Associate will primarily help manage our accounts receivable (customer invoices and payments) and processing of company payroll but have the opportunity to learn general ledger accounting and financial reporting and analysis. This position is a perfect opportunity for someone with an interest in an accounting career or who is looking to refresh their bookkeeping or payroll skills.

The Business Associate position is part-time (approx. 25 hours) in our Palo Alto office with potential to move to full-time, with flexible scheduling and a great team-oriented work environment. The position reports to the chief financial officer.

Qualified candidates will have at least an associate's degree in accounting, business or related field or 2-3 years experience in a business role. You should be comfortable with Excel and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Primary job responsibilities--Accounts Receivable Associate:

Issue monthly invoices to advertising clients, respond to client questions regarding account status.

Apply payments to customer accounts including daily cash deposits and credit card transactions.

Assist in credit and collections procedures including maintenance of account aging reports and communication with senior management regarding past-due balances.

Assist sales reps in resolving billing and scheduling questions and help with account entry maintenance in our billing system.

Assist accounting staff in month-end closing procedures and other A/R-related tasks as they arise.
