The Mountain View Voice, an award-winning, weekly community newspaper, is looking for interns with an appetite for news and a hunger to learn real-world reporting skills. Interns work in the newsroom and are exposed to all aspects of community journalism, from interviewing and reporting to putting together a newspaper. Writing assignments may include city government issues, neighborhood news, business, arts and features. Interns are encouraged to attend weekly staff meetings at our Palo Alto office. Other duties may include fact-checking, basic photography and conducting man-on-the-street interviews for our weekly feature Voices Around Town.
Interns should be responsible, independent, have good writing skills and be able to work on deadline. Some journalism course work or experience is preferred, and knowledge of the AP Stylebook is a plus. Interns work approximately 20 hours per week during the summer, and approximately 10 hours per week during the school year. Internships last 12 weeks and are unpaid. Applicants should email Editor Andrea Gemmet a resume, a well-written cover letter detailing your experience and interest in journalism, and several news clips.
