Embarcadero Media seeks an Associate Digital Editor to accelerate our company's growth and expand the online reach of our digital news products, The Six Fifty and Peninsula Foodist. Embarcadero Media is a local news company serving Silicon Valley and the East Bay with a four-decade track record of producing award-winning coverage of the communities we serve.

The Associate Digital Editor: Food & Features will produce the company's food coverage on the SF Peninsula, including our widely read food blog and newsletter, as well as write in-depth features for our range of publications. This role reports directly to our Digital Editor and favors a journalist with a passion for digital storytelling, a nose for overlooked or under-covered topics and people, and a love of connecting directly with an audience.

As a key member of our editorial team, the Associate Digital Editor will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across our family of publications to help grow our coverage of this fast-changing region and find new ways to connect our readers to one another and their communities. This is a full-time benefited position with a currently hybrid schedule split between remote work and our offices in Palo Alto. Candidates must be familiar with the SF Peninsula and able to travel the area to interview sources and report stories.

Key duties for this role may evolve but will include:

  • Produce multiple Peninsula Foodist blog posts per week and the accompanying biweekly newsletter, developing and growing our reporting on the diverse dining scene on the Peninsula.
  • Contribute features that go beyond daily headlines to expand our readership's understanding of the region, with a focus on our core communities of Palo Alto, Mountain View, Menlo Park and Redwood City.
  • Contribute to audience engagement efforts, including posting to social media and attending community events.
  • Assist in the assigning and editing of stories produced by staff and freelancers.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A passion for digital storytelling and evolving formats and media.
  • A deadline-oriented mindset and the ability to prioritize projects and generate new story ideas.
  • Familiarity with the basic tools and techniques of newsgathering and writing.
  • A strong affinity for the mission and values of a local news organization that prioritizes fact-based, objective reporting and an open-minded approach to interacting with our communities..
  • The drive to develop a local beat related to the Peninsula food scene.
  • The ability to work well independently and with small groups, larger teams and external partners.
